Really like the idea of meeting up irl but never got round to it yet, work and kids keep me tied up (in the kids' case quite literally sometimes). But I've got my guildies up on facebook same as any other of my friends, I'm planning a trip across to see the GM and other officers and you're right I never would have that opportunity if it wasn't for WoW. Don't see myself sharing a bed with the MT though, I'm not so insecure as to share a bed with someone of the same sex if it means a comfy mattress and duvet, but he's undead and has a tendency to smell and have bits fall off. The "is that your knee" conversation could end up being entirely different and even more terrifying. I really couldn't imagine playing WoW in a 'vacuum' anymore, it would just seem to desolate and lonely. Maybe it's cos I think of myself as a social person and I like the interaction because there seems to be plenty of people happy enough to be 'lone wolves' but I just can't do it. Hell unless I'm quickly doing the dailies, I'll log out if none of my guildies or friends are on.

You couldn't be more right Runz. The biggest example of this I have is my previous guild Cataclysm which to this day (even though we disbanded well over a year ago) is still active socially. It was one of those guilds that knew that the social side, the side not just beyond raiding but outside the game, was solidly important and every few months we'd meet up, have some drinks and party the night away as friends, not just guildies. When you've seen your guild officer butcher "Living on a Prayer" and you've shared a bed with the main tank, people who without the game you would 99.9% chance never have met it really does show the power that this game has as a community. When the day came that Cataclysm died we didn't stop here and were soon attending birthday parties and other such more real events and I personally think this is one of the wonderful things about the game, the way it can create communities that live beyond the realm of fantasy. /Gothmara
