Great article on your site, I really enjoyed reading it :) I think that really is the problem though, we will have this surge of tanks (who will a mixture of 'professional' tanks and fail DPS tanks just in it for the loot) but it will only last as people are getting something out of it - it isn't addressing the core problem of why there is such an imbalance in the tank/healer/dps ratios that caused this problem in the first place. I tried (and hope I achieved) to layout the causes for these problems in the article ie the shift in difficulty level in Cata, the relative anonymity that LFD affords players meaning they can act as arsehats without consequent and that fact that really LFD isn't really designed for the start of a new expansion, it's designed for the end of an old expansion. I'm glad Blizzard recognised the issue and are trying to do something about, I think encouraging more tanks (and healers) to use LFD is good idea, although it's somewhat counter to the Cata design philosophy of encouraging more guild orientated gameplay. My biggest concern though is what if (and it is only a what if) Blizzard slaps a band aid on it then says "right that's that problem solved" "But the core problems haven't been adressed..." "I SAID THAT'S THAT PROBLEM SOLVED, GOT IT!" BTW sorry about the link problem you had on the comment section, hyperlinking in comments is prevented unless you're registered so as to stop spam comments and phising. Yes even my innocuous little sight gets targeted by spammers, although I really should stick up a comments policy page to clarify this Runz

TUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK!!! !!!!! (You're not getting that on all your comments lol) I agree, the rewards won't make much of a difference and I think most blog commentators agree on that. What's slightly concerning to me (or as concerned as I'm gonna get over a computer game) is that Blizzard throws out this kind of band aid but then fails to address the longer term problem or root causes. I hope that what I trying to convey is that really LFD does not much up with the style and type of heroics found in Cata which require more group cohesion - the type of cohesion you will more likely find in a guild group, or even a realm group where reputation will be carried rather than the anonymous swirl of LFD groups. Interestingly WoW Insider's Shifting Perspectives picked this up yesterday: http://wow.joystiq.com/2011/04/12/shifting-perspectives-tanks-bribes-and-player-behavior/#continued but I wrote it first so :P rofl. But as Tier 12 rolls in eventually and the availability of (sub-tier 10) epics in the new Zul heroics begins to proliferate then I think we both absolutely agree that LFD will come back to fore. It's just kind of disheartening that we see so little group co-operation in the LFD except for when Cata was launched or when you're in a predominantly guild group. PS I had to mention my arena partner and bestest tanking buddy lol :D

As for the lack of tanks, I can't say I complain. It's nice being needed, and somehow I still think it's one of the easiest roles in the whole game ( go there, don't stand in fire and look mean! - no running around dodging fireballs). Still, I don't think the rewards will make much of a change. If one doesn't like being a tank, leading a team and caring about threat instead of damage done, then no bag of pressies (unless extremeley "alluring" well shaped pressies *cough*) will change that. (or perhaps spawn some really bad tanks) But usually blizz does things like this. Launches a complete controversial piece of information and the real thing turns out to be totally different. Wait and see :D

Ty for mentioning me Runzy:P Great article! Just a word from a tank who does lfd on daily basis, most times with complete stranger groups. They've gotten A Lot better. I'm not saying they are nearly as much fun and gigly as the hc guild runs, but they're no longer the "wipefests" they used to be, prolly due to the fact that people a better geared so there's more room for error. Gearing up and (re)learning how to tank was indeed hard, since I did it with pugs, had to deal with people being prats pulling all sort of hell while I myself was not feeling so confident in my own bear skin (too thin at that time). But right now if you can ignore the occasional elitists attitudes, assheads and the fact that people won't communicate at all, then quite often you can enjoy groups with sky high dps without being stretched thin for aggro (unless it's Grim Batol ... *shiver*). I expect the bad reputation of LFD to improve.
